 Fabricates and assembles structural metal products, such as framework or shells for machinery, ovens, tanks, stacks, and metal parts according to job order, verbal instructions, and blueprints: Develops layout and plans sequence of operations, applying knowledge of trigonometry, stock allowances for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and physical properties of metal.

Essential Functions
Locates and marks bending and cutting lines onto workpiece. Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters,. Hammers, chips, and grinds workpiece to cut, bend, and straighten metal. Preheats workpieces, using hand torch. Positions, aligns, fits, and welds together parts  Designs and constructs templates and fixtures. Verifies conformance of workpiece to specifications, using square, ruler, and measuring tape. May fabricate and assemble sheet metal products. May set up and operate machine tools associated with fabricating shops, such as radial, end mill, and edge planer.  Receives instructions, prints, and work orders for the job. Plans details of working procedure and tools and material requirements.  Fabricates equipment by cutting, burning, and welding various metals. Repairs equipment by using welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment.Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded. Sets up, assembles, and tacks weld parts. Builds up worn or defective surfaces.
Uses burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape. Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
May be assigned to dismantle or cut up obsolete machinery, setting aside parts for scrap dealer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Visual acuity (corrected) to read directions and prints and to inspect machined parts closely to ensure that they meet specifications.
2. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate machinery for precision work.
3. Physical ability to do work requiring frequent stooping and bending.
4. Physical strength to lift and carry 75 pounds frequently.

Minimum Qualifications: JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Work involves varying degrees of precision and control where damage could be considerable.
Attention and care required to prevent injury to others when performing maintenance work.
Work involves considerable stooping, bending, and working in overhead structures and on scaffolds. Considerable glare emits from work, requiring the wearing of personal protective equipment. Exposed to moderate burns and exposed to flying objects, such as chips and scale.
Accident hazard can involve severe cuts and bruises. Job site must be carefully enclosed to prevent injury to others from sparks and flying chips.
